Gender Isn't Real!

Image
This time we are not going to talk about a specific TV show, but instead, we are going to discuss about tropes! Not just any tropes, but tropes regarding queers. With the current openness of the society, more and more shows have included LGBTQ related characters or plots into the show to catch up with the trend and connect to the society. Here are 10 tropes with examples from different TV shows: 1. All Lesbians Want Kids : Susan in  Friends Do you remember whom Carol (Ross’s first ex-wife) left Ross for? Susan! who becomes lover with Carol and they even get married in the later part of the show. When Carol and Ross get divorced, Carol finds out that she is pregnant with Ross’s baby; and they decide to keep it. When the baby is about to be born, Susan and Ross were fighting about whose last name should be put in the front of the other’s. Although this baby is the creation of Carol and Ross, Susan still wants her last name to be in the baby’s name, which indica

When Marge becomes Homer, Homer becomes Marge!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hey! To all of the social media active users (which are basically every one of us in this generation), have you ever seen this picture when you browse through Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or other social media platform that you use? It is one of the memes online called – Gender Bender Simpsons , which is what it looks like when all of the characters gender-swap to the opposite genders. And this is what we are doing today! This time, we are only going to swap the gender of Homer and Marge. Homer In the original character setting of Homer, he is a lazy dad who is always immature, stupid, selfish, simple-minded and with lots of anger. (Think of how many times he chokes Bart…) I feel like most of the time, Lisa is even more mature than he is. However, from time to time, the side of him caring and loving his children will

Friends: The One with The Mask

Have you noticed or you already realized that in each season of Friends, there is always one episode talking about Thanksgiving. Today, we are looking into the one in season 3 -- The One with The Football (Episode 9). Yes, it is the one when Ross and Monica restart the annual GELLER CUP! (It disturbs me somehow...)   Gender Dynamics Men act, Women are At one moment of their football game, their ball is thrown too far away that a Dutch girl, Margha , who is at the side of the field stops the ball for them. Then, Chandler and Joey start talking with her. Both of them have the thoughts of hitting on her. This is the example of Margha being the pretty special girl while Chandler and Joey are trying to act tough during the football game to win her heart and attention. (Boys need actions to make themselves special.) Men are strong, women are pretty When girls are in the same team, Ross says something like "We are not going to fight girls.&qu

You Shall Not Pass The Tests!: Modern Family

Image
I am personally fond of comedies when it comes to watching TV shows. I met my first true love of sitcoms when I encountered  Friends  as a kid. I somehow grow up with this show that I can just watch it over and over again without getting bored; and I feel that lots of people have the same feeling as mine (Or is it just my imagination?). I thought it is such a classic show that no show will ever replace its place in my heart. Until I met my another love --  Modern Family .  The position of  Friends  has been shaken since then.  The name of the show explains itself -- it is modern, with the composition of 3 unique families.  Modern Family  combines the traditional type of family structure as well as the unconventional ones : ·        Claire's family: one father, one mother and 3 children ·        Jay's family: a hot Latino single mom along with her kid marries to an old man ·        Mitchell's family: a married gay couple with an adopted Vietnamese daughter

The feminist Gilmore Girls

Mirror, mirror on the wall. Which TV show would you say is the most feminist one of them all? I assume that even if Gilmore Girls did not emerge in your mind in the first place, you can agree that it is definitely up there on the list. The show comprises the stories and the lives of several female protagonists. The feature of the show reflected the feminist image and conveys the faith that women have the power to be independent and to achieve their goals. The depiction of every female characters’ personality is unconventional. Without a doubt, Lorelai is not only the main protagonists but also the one whose characteristic and story can mirror the main idea of the show. Her situation and the way she deals with that are ahead of her time. In other words, she is the opposite of how the society consider an “ideal woman” should be. First of all, she is a single mother who got pregnant when she was 16 years old. Back at that time, most of the women would just choo
